ING economist Carsten Brzeski warned the move would further weaken Europe’s struggling car industry. Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba questioned whether all nations should be treated the same, given Japan’s investment in the US. Brazil’s President Lula criticised the tariffs as a threat to free trade. China, seen as a key target, warned that trade wars have no winners.
