While peers embraced curved glass and AI modeling, Liu Jiakun made waves in architecture with red bricks, bamboo weaving, and broken tiles. He won this year’s Pritzker Prize – architecture’s highest honor. He became China’s second laureate in 13 years, celebrated for his iconic works like the West Village Yard, Luyeyuan Stone Sculpture Art Museum and the Hu Huishan Memorial. The jury praised his designs for being deeply rooted in local culture while innovating living spaces. In an interview with CGTN host Tian Wei, Liu shared his philosophy of harmonizing architecture with nature and integrating oriental thought into his practice.
