The decision made by Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities to expel Chinese mainland spouses lacks legal basis and infringes on their human rights, said a mainland expert of Taiwan studies. An influencer known as Yaya was among the women ordered to leave Taiwan, separating her from her husband and three children, over online remarks she made on cross-Straits relations. The DPP authorities accused her of advocating for reunification by force. What could the expulsions mean for other mainland-born spouses living in Taiwan?
