Commenting on the U.S. government’s proposal to impose fines of up to $1.5 million on ships made in China, John Pang, former Malaysian government official and CEO of CIMB ASEAN Research Institute, called the move "bizarre and gangster-like." He warned that it would disrupt both global and U.S. shipping efficiency, while China’s dominance in the sector remains unaffected.
