Australia claimed Chinese naval ships conducting live-fire exercises in international waters near Australia failed to provide adequate prior warning of the exercises, which Australia said forced them to divert dozens of commercial flights over the area. China’s Defense Ministry and the Chinese Ambassador to Australia have stated that the exercises complied with international law and did not affect aviation safety. What more do we know about the Chinese Navy drills? Were any international laws violated? And what does this incident reveal about the relationship between China and Australia?
