The EU stands at a crossroads – not only has it been sidelined in U.S.-led negotiations over the Ukraine crisis, but it is also coming to terms with the reality that it must take responsibility for its own defense. Meanwhile, tensions between the EU and the U.S. continue to escalate over tariffs, security and territorial issues. How will Europe navigate the challenges posed by the new Trump administration? Can it finally achieve strategic autonomy and act as one? And is the transatlantic rift merely a temporary lull in relations, or the beginning of a deeper, more permanent separation? Guests in this edition of Dialogue are Dr. Matthias Bauer, director at the European Centre for International Political Economy; Professor Huang Jing from Shanghai International Studies University; and Josef Gregory Mahoney, professor of politics from East China Normal University.
