78-year-old Dawa Phentok is a former serf of the Trengring manor in Gyangze County, Xigaze City, in China’s Xizang Autonomous Region. How were serfs treated in old Xizang? "You can’t choose your life. You’re noble, you’re the master. We were serfs who can only do farm work, and we would be serfs for generations. Without the Communist Party of China, we would be serfs forever, slaves forever," said Phentok. #xizang #serf #tibet
This year marks the 66th anniversary of the democratic reform that abolished feudal serfdom in Xizang, and March 28 is the 17th Serfs’ Emancipation Day.
Join CGTN’s Mi Sutong to visit the ruins of Trengring manor and the small serf’s house where Dawa Phentok and his parents used to live, to experience the tragic fate of the serfs while listening to him talk about the new life after Xizang’s democratic reform.
