At a recent press conference, Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te unveiled 17 strategies to counter so-called "threats" facing the island, defining the Chinese mainland as a "hostile external force." This latest move once again reveals the authoritarian nature behind his "Taiwan independence" attempts and his stance against cross-Straits communication, peace, and democracy.

CGTN Stringer invited several Taiwan residents to share their views on the issue. Mr Lin believes that after Lai Ching-te took office, cross-Straits relations have become very tense, which goes against the public’s desire for peace. Mr Lin said, "I hope that in the future, Taiwan and the Chinese mainland can truly establish a bridge of friendly communication. Then we can gradually move toward a fully unified territory."
