The Chinese People’s Liberation Army Eastern Theater Command on Tuesday held multi-subject drills in waters to the north, south, and east of the Taiwan island. The theater command mobilized its vessel, aircraft formations, conventional missile troops and long-range rocket launching systems to carry out drills of air interception, assault on maritime targets, strikes on ground objects, and joint blockade and control. These drills were aimed at testing the troops’ capabilities in integrated operations, seizure of operational control and multi-directional precision strikes, according to the theater command. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the drills were a serious warning against "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and a legitimate, necessary move to defend national sovereignty and unity.
