Every year, on the second day of the second month of China’s traditional calendar, the village of Puxi in Lixian County, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, comes alive with ancient rituals. The Qiang, a Chinese ethnic minority, celebrate the Guairu Festival to welcome the spring and honor nature’s gods through chants, animal offerings and spirited dances led by Shibi priests.
