China’s top political advisory body starts annual session
The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, or CPPC, opened today in Beijing. The advisory body does not have lawmaking power, but provides proposals and feedback to the legislation. CPPCC chairman Wang Huning delivered a report on the work of the standing committee of the CPPCC National Committee. He ended his speech with a call for delegates to widely gather the people’s consensus, wisdom and strength for the service of Chinese-style modernisation. Tan Yew Guan reports from Beijing.
