Singapore to consider caning scammers in more serious cases: Sun Xueling
Singapore is ramping up efforts to tackle the rising threat of scams, with S$1.1 billion lost last year. In Parliament, Jurong GRC MP Tan Wu Meng proposed that caning be introduced as a penalty for severe cases — a suggestion that Minister of State for Home Affairs Sun Xueling said the government is considering. During the Home Affairs Ministry’s Budget debate, Ms Sun also urged Telegram to do more to prevent criminals from using its platform for scams. Jeraldine Yap reports.
