An Islamic cleric has criticised Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami for not fasting during a Champions Trophy match in Dubai, claiming that Shami committed a ‘grave sin’ by sipping an energy drink whilst playing against Australia. Shami’s brother and others have condemned the cleric’s comments, stating that players representing the country cannot be expected to fast during crucial matches. In a separate development, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) would solve the Kashmir issue. He outlined steps taken by the government, including the removal of Article 370, restoring economic activity, and holding elections. Omar Abdullah questioned the government’s ability to reclaim PoK. The minister also addressed Trump’s tariff threats and India-US relations.
