India’s Reliance signs satellite internet deal with Musk’s Starlink in surprise move
Telecom giant Reliance Jio — controlled by India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani — has signed a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to bring Starlink satellite internet services to India. This comes a day after a similar agreement between Starlink and India’s second-biggest telecom player Bharti Airtel. Starlink has been trying to secure a licence to operate in India since 2022, but concerns about national security have delayed the process. Analysts said Starlink could bring enormous benefits to India, with its ability to provide online connectivity to those in remote areas. Rebecca Bundhun reports from Mumbai.
