Large crowds in Turkiye have again defied a government ban on public gatherings for the fifth night in a row. Police fired tear gas and water cannon at protesters. Anger is growing after a court ordered Istanbul’s mayor Ekrem Imamoglu be formally arrested and jailed, ahead of his trial on charges of corruption. Imamoglu denies the accusations. Supporters say his arrest is part of a smear campaign.
