Cross-Strait relations take backseat as China focuses on economy, trade war: Analysts
In Taiwan, observers have been following the Two Sessions in Beijing closely to gain insights into the future direction of China’s policy towards the island. However, even with the tense cross-Strait relations and Taiwan President William Lai’s strong pro-independence stance, the message coming out of this year’s annual political meetings seems to suggest that the Taiwan issue isn’t China’s top priority right now. Analysts said they believe Beijing is far more focused on its economy, the ongoing trade war and tensions with the Trump administration. Victoria Jen reports.
