Major workplace injury rate hit all-time low in 2024, but fatalities rose: MOM
Singapore recorded an all-time low rate of major workplace injuries last year, at 15.9 incidents per 100,000 workers. However, work-related fatalities increased from 36 in 2023 to 43. The Manpower Ministry is focusing on high-risk sectors as it pushes for more tech solutions to prevent incidents. Adopting tech has helped the manufacturing sector improve its safety record from 155 incidents of deaths and injuries in 2023 to 125 last year. However, other sectors like construction — which accounted for nearly half of the deaths last year — are still facing challenges. Caitlin Ng reports.
