Myanmar army fires warning shots at Chinese quake relief convoy
Myanmar’s military has confirmed it fired warning shots yesterday at a Chinese Red Cross aid convoy on its way to help victims of last weeks’ powerful earthquake. The vehicles were approaching Ommati village in northern Shan state. Myanmar said the vehicles did not stop while driving through the conflict zone, adding that the Chinese Red Cross gave no notice of their presence. The quake has killed more than 2,800 people so far, while more than 370 people are still missing, believed to be trapped under debris. Leong Wai Kit reports.
