Myanmar quake situation ‘utterly desperate’, more aid needed: UN humanitarian chief
The powerful earthquake that hit central Myanmar on Mar 28 was a “disaster of epic proportions”, said United Nations’ undersecretary general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator Tom Fletcher. He visited the quake-hit cities of Naypyidaw and Mandalay on Friday, and called on the international community to step up support. He tells CNA’s Poh Kok Ing how the UN’s 48 teams on the ground are navigating the tough operating environment amid an ongoing civil war that has hampered aid efforts.
