New legislation will establish Statutory Torts to clearly define specific types of online harms
Singapore is developing new legislation to clearly define the types of online harms that will be addressed under the law. The Statutory Torts will provide a clear legal basis for victims to hold to account those responsible for the harm they suffer. There will also be new mechanisms to address the issue of anonymity online being misused by perpetrators of online harms. A new government agency will be established to provide swift responses to complaints, ensuring victims have faster access to recourse. These measures are part of the Law Ministry’s broader efforts to strengthen protections for individuals navigating online spaces. Jeraldine Yap reports.
