Singapore sees 22% jump in moderate or severe trauma injury cases from 2021 to 2023
More people are landing in hospital for moderate or severe trauma injuries from incidents such as falls and road accidents. For every 100,000 people, 148 of them were injured in 2021. This rose to 166 in 2023. To tackle the rise, a national roadmap is in the works to stamp out common causes of injuries. CNA speaks with the Centre Director of the National University Centre for Trauma at NUH, Adjunct Assistant Professor Raj Menon, and Clinical Assistant Professor Ronald Tan, Senior Consultant at the Department of Emergency Medicine at KKH. They discuss common types of injuries seen in Singapore, such as falls, why they are prone to happen, and what can be done to prevent them.
