Singapore stands ready to deliver more assistance for quake-hit Myanmar: FM Vivian Balakrishnan
Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan on Sunday (Mar 30) released a video statement, saying Singapore stands ready to deliver further tranches of humanitarian assistance to earthquake-hit Myanmar over the next dew days.
He said ASEAN foreign ministers had completed an emergency meeting on the earthquake. "It was an opportunity for us to come together collectively in sorrow and solidarity to express for the victims who have passed away."
He added: "I know Singaporeans feel deep compassion for the people in Myanmar … The Singapore Red Cross has embarked on a fundraising campaign from the public. They have already set aside S$150,000. The Singapore government will match with a further S$150,000. And I’m sure Singaporeans out of the deep compassion of our hearts will donate generously," he said.
"We hope that there will be an effective ceasefire so that everyone in Myanmar can focus on dealing with the humanitarian disaster which has occured."
