Singapore to recycle 100,000 cans into 5,000 medals for World Aquatics Championships
About 100,000 metal cans will be recycled into 5,000 medals for the World Aquatics Championships in July. Singapore will be the first host country of the event to do so, as part of efforts to make sporting events greener. The cans will be crushed, melted down, moulded and polished into medals. Each medal needs 20 cans to be made and weighs about 150g. The medal lanyards will be made from recycled plastic bottles. A sustainability report will be shared with the government, SportSG and World Aquatics at the end of the event. Nadine Yeam reports.
