Work permit holders will no longer have limit on employment period
Work permit holders will have no more term limits, as the government tweaks foreign manpower rules to ease the burden on companies dealing with a labour crunch. Currently, the term limit is capped at 14 to 26 years, but that could also mean firms have to let go of their experienced workers during the prime working age. The maximum age of work permit holders will also be raised to 63 years — up from the current 60 — to match the local retirement age. Firms will also be able to hire from three more countries: Bhutan, Cambodia and Laos. Richa Mathew reports.
