Colleagues and eyewitnesses say Oscar-winning Palestinian co-director of “No Other Land” Hamdan Ballal was assaulted by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank and taken away by Israeli soldiers. The Israeli military said it had arrived at the scene of a “violent confrontation” between Palestinians and Israelis who were throwing rocks at each other, releasing Ballal a day later. CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, who interviewed Basel Adra and Yuval Abraham, the film’s co-directors, explains why artists like them are the people “we should be celebrating.”
