Since taking office, U.S. President Donald Trump has heightened trade tensions with Canada, a close ally of the United States, if not the closest. Trump’s aggressive tariff policies and unpredictable style have placed U.S.-Canada relations on edge. And it’s not all. In an interview with CGTN’s Wang Guan, Benoît Hardy-Chartrand, faculty lecturer at Temple University Japan, warns that Trump’s escalating trade tactics are forcing Canada to reconsider its deep economic ties with Washington. Meanwhile, similar concerns are growing in other American allies such as Japan and South Korea, questioning whether they too might face sudden economic or political pressure. As the world braces for four more years of volatility, the only thing certain could be uncertainty.
