ASEAN countries have had impressive economic growth in recent years, and become a major destination for foreign direct investment in the Global South. High-tech sectors such as semiconductors, 5G, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things are fueling growth. Last year, ASEAN and China reached deals under the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0, a sign of deeper collaboration. At the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, CGTN’s Tian Wei had an exclusive conversation with ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn about the synergy between China and ASEAN economies and the changes going on in the region and beyond.
