China’s travel industry had an unprecedented surge, with more than 2.3 billion passenger trips made nationwide during the eight-day Spring Festival holiday, which ended Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, China had a record 501 million domestic tourist trips over the holidays, up nearly six percent year on year. Chinese travel trends serve as an economic barometer. What do record-breaking travel numbers tell us about China’s consumer appetite?
