Young people from the U.S. and China have been bonding at an unexpected place: RedNote, a Chinese app popular domestically for over a decade but only recently gaining traction overseas. They’ve been discussing anything from real estate and employment to education and healthcare.
A RedNote user from the U.S. state of Ohio shared his evolving impressions of China after joining the app. He said that Chinese people embrace the past and respect traditions, including those of ethnic minority groups – a stark contrast from what he had heard in American media. He noted that he was moved by how Chinese people were appreciative of the U.S. for its assistance during World War II. He also expressed hope for more open and sincere communication, free from prejudice, between people from the two countries.
