At a Senate Banking Committee hearing on Tuesday, Senator Elizabeth Warren argued America’s largest banks lack crucial oversight now that employees at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau have been told to halt all work. Warren pressed Fed Chair Jerome Powell to confirm the regulatory gap left if the CFPB does not perform its functions. However, Powell noted in an earlier exchange with Warren that the Fed still has "some jurisdiction" with regard to consumer banking examinations.
