U.S. and Russian figure skaters were among the 64 people onboard the commercial jet that collided midair with a Blackhawk military helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River in Washington D.C. on Wednesday night. In a statement shared by U.S. Figure Skating to news outlet WUSA9, they explained many ‘athletes, coaches and family members were returning home from the National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.’ The organization added, ‘We are devastated by this unspeakable tragedy and hold the victims’ families closely in our hearts.’
