Various cultural events showcasing folklore and traditions have been held across China to celebrate the Spring Festival holiday. Traditional performances, such as the Yingge dance from the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), the Yangge performance – a traditional folk dance of the Han ethnic group and Sichuan Opera, which originated in the 1700s, were staged during the Chinese New Year.
